Lewis & Taggart
Gyldenpris Kunsthall

The exhibition comprises a suite of 45 wall–mounted reliefs composed in wood. Each a permutation of one another. Exploring the intersection of sculpture and functionality, the works employ a rhythmic, additive process in their construction: the first piece is made from a single block of wood, the second two each combine two wooden elements, the next three each unite three pieces of wood, and so on, until the series culminates in nine works of nine parts each. Highlighting methodologies typically ascribed to craft and furniture making, Lewis & Taggart’s new works are underscored by an articulation of collectivity and transformation, two motifs that frequently reoccur within the artists’ practice. The series unfolds in a similar fashion to an abstract musical score or a piece of constrained writing, and is composed using hundreds of small parts through techniques of wood joinery, inlay, and turning.

The exhibition is presented with kind support from Kunstsentrene i Norge and the City of Bergen
